## About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and patient-focused Medical Assistant to support daily clinical operations and help deliver a positive patient experience. This role is an important part of the care team and works closely with nurses, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care, clinical flow, and communication.

The Medical Assistant helps prepare patients and exam rooms for care, collects basic health information, records vital signs, supports clinical documentation, and assists with coordination between patients and members of the care team. ## Key Responsibilities

### Patient Preparation & Rooming

* Welcome patients in a professional, respectful, and compassionate manner.
* Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, or provider visits.
* Escort patients to exam rooms and help ensure they feel informed, comfortable, and supported.
* Verify patient identity, reason for visit, and basic health information.
* Assist patients with forms, instructions, and preparation needs as appropriate.
* Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, and dignity during all interactions.
* Communicate patient concerns, questions, or changes in condition to the appropriate care team member.

### Exam Room Preparation

* Prepare exam rooms before patient visits and ensure rooms are clean, organized, and properly stocked.
* Set up supplies, equipment, and materials needed for patient care.
* Clean and reset exam rooms between patients according to infection control and clinic procedures.
* Ensure clinical supplies are available and notify appropriate staff when items need to be restocked.
* Assist with maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming care environment.
* Follow infection prevention, sanitation, and safety procedures.

### Health Status Data Collection

* Collect and document patient health information according to clinic procedures.
* Review and update patient medical history, medication lists, allergies, symptoms, and reason for visit.
* Ask appropriate intake questions and document responses accurately in the electronic health record.
* Identify information that may need provider or nursing review.
* Support accurate and timely documentation to help the care team make informed decisions.
* Maintain a professional and patient-centered approach when gathering sensitive health information.

### Vital Signs & Clinical Support

* Measure and record patient vital signs, which may include blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration rate, oxygen saturation, height, weight, and pain level.
* Document vital signs and related observations accurately in the medical record.
* Report abnormal findings or patient concerns to the appropriate clinical team member.
* Assist providers, nurses, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with basic clinical support tasks as directed.
* Prepare equipment or supplies for examinations, treatments, or minor procedures.
* Follow established protocols, scope of practice, and provider instructions.

### Care Coordination & Communication

* Communicate clearly with physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other care team members.
* Help coordinate patient flow by keeping providers informed of patient status, room availability, and visit needs.
* Support follow-up communication, care instructions, referrals, lab coordination, or scheduling needs as assigned.
* Relay patient questions or concerns to appropriate clinical staff.
* Assist with documenting care coordination activities and patient communications.
* Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on patient safety, efficiency, and service.

### Patient Experience

* Help create a welcoming and reassuring environment for patients and families.
* Provide clear, respectful, and helpful communication throughout the visit.
* Respond to patient needs with patience, empathy, and professionalism.
* Help reduce patient anxiety by explaining basic steps in the visit process when appropriate.
* Support timely rooming, efficient clinic flow, and positive interactions with the care team.

### Documentation & Administrative Support

* Accurately enter patient information, clinical observations, and visit-related details into the electronic health record.
* Assist with forms, patient instructions, referrals, scheduling follow-up visits, and other documentation tasks as assigned.
* Maintain organized clinical records and support compliance with documentation standards.
* Help manage messages, patient requests, or internal communications according to clinic procedures.
* Support front office, back office, or clinical administrative tasks as needed.
* Ensure documentation is timely, complete, and consistent with privacy and healthcare regulations.

### Safety, Compliance & Quality

* Follow all patient safety, infection control, privacy, and confidentiality requirements.
* Comply with HIPAA, organizational policies, clinical protocols, and applicable healthcare regulations.
* Use proper hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and cleaning procedures.
* Identify and report safety concerns, equipment issues, supply needs, or workflow problems.
* Participate in quality improvement efforts, training, and team meetings as needed.
* Maintain professionalism and accountability in all patient care activities.

## Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
* Medical Assistant certification or registration preferred, depending on state and employer requirements.
* Prior experience in a clinic, physician office, urgent care, hospital, or outpatient healthcare setting preferred.
* Knowledge of basic medical terminology, vital signs, patient intake, and clinical documentation.
* Familiarity with electronic health records preferred.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary care team.

## Preferred Experience

* Experience rooming patients and preparing exam rooms.
* Experience collecting health histories, medication information, allergies, and vital signs.
* Experience working with physicians, nurses, physician assistants, or nurse practitioners.
* Familiarity with outpatient clinic workflows and patient care coordination.
* Experience with electronic medical records or electronic health record systems.
* Current CPR or Basic Life Support certification preferred.
* Bilingual communication skills are a plus, depending on patient population.
