## About the Role

Amazon is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and ownership-driven **Accounting Manager** to join its accounting organization and support Stores Accounting for the Worldwide Grocery Stores business. This role is ideal for a financial accounting professional who is comfortable working in a dynamic environment, partnering with finance, business, and technology teams, and leading accounting and reporting processes that support a complex and growing business.

The Accounting Manager will support accounting operations and reporting activities for Amazon’s grocery business, which is focused on making grocery shopping easier, faster, and more affordable while expanding customer access to fresh food and everyday essentials. This position requires strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, process ownership, internal controls awareness, and the ability to work cross-functionally with business and IT stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and comfortable managing end-to-end accounting processes. They should be able to identify risks, escalate issues appropriately, improve processes, document technical accounting conclusions, and help ensure financial reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned with company standards.

## Key Responsibilities

* Support accounting and reporting processes for Amazon Stores Accounting and the Worldwide Grocery Stores organization.
* Own end-to-end accounting processes that support finance teams, business partners, and operational stakeholders.
* Lead the delivery of recurring accounting tasks, month-end close activities, reconciliations, reporting schedules, and related financial processes.
* Prepare, review, and analyze financial results, journal entries, account reconciliations, variance explanations, and supporting documentation.
* Partner with finance, business, operations, and IT teams to understand business activity and ensure accounting processes reflect operational realities.
* Support financial reporting accuracy by identifying issues, analyzing data, and resolving accounting or process gaps.
* Understand and apply internal control design concepts to accounting processes, system workflows, reconciliations, and reporting activities.
* Identify risks, control gaps, reporting issues, or process concerns and escalate them to leadership as appropriate.
* Exercise sound judgment to keep projects, accounting deliverables, and cross-functional workstreams moving forward.
* Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership over assigned processes, projects, deadlines, and stakeholder relationships.
* Lead or support accounting-related projects involving new business initiatives, system changes, reporting improvements, grocery operations, or process automation.
* Improve partnerships between Accounting and finance, business, and IT groups by building trust, clarifying requirements, and creating effective communication routines.
* Research technical accounting issues and prepare clear position papers, accounting memos, and supporting documentation.
* Memorialize accounting conclusions, process decisions, control considerations, and business assumptions in a clear and audit-ready manner.
* Identify process improvement opportunities that increase efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and control effectiveness.
* Support audit requests, SOX compliance, internal control reviews, and documentation needs.
* Work with large data sets, accounting systems, reporting tools, and business information to support accurate financial analysis.
* Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to implement process changes, resolve data issues, and improve accounting operations.
* Communicate accounting results, risks, project updates, and recommendations clearly to leadership and business partners.

## Required Qualifications

* Strong experience in accounting, financial reporting, corporate accounting, operational accounting, public accounting, or a related finance function.
* Experience supporting month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, variance analysis, and accounting controls.
* Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, accounting principles, financial statements, and internal control concepts.
* Ability to own end-to-end accounting processes and deliver accurate results on recurring deadlines.
* Experience working with finance, business, operations, or IT stakeholders to support accounting and reporting needs.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to research accounting issues and prepare clear documentation or technical accounting position papers.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, completeness, and audit-ready documentation.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and changing business environment.
* Ability to identify risks, escalate issues, and recommend practical solutions.
* Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
* Proficiency with Excel, accounting systems, reporting tools, and financial data analysis.

## Preferred Qualifications

* CPA license or progress toward CPA certification.
* Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, economics, or a related field.
* Experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, retail accounting, grocery accounting, e-commerce, technology, consumer products, or large-scale operations.
* Experience with SOX controls, audit support, financial systems, process improvement, and cross-functional accounting projects.
* Familiarity with ERP systems, data warehouses, business intelligence tools, and financial reporting platforms.
* Experience working with large, complex data sets and system-driven accounting processes.
* Experience supporting new product launches, business expansions, system implementations, or operational change initiatives.
* Ability to work in a large, matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
* Experience documenting accounting conclusions, process flows, control design, and accounting policies.
* MBA, master’s degree in accounting, or other relevant advanced credential is a plus.
